EMERAM had acquired the Hagen-based confectionery specialist Hussel in 2014 as part of a carve-out from DOUGLAS HOLDING. In 2018, Hussel was partially divested to arko Holding GmbH, parent company of the confectioneries arko GmbH and J. Eilles GmbH & Co. KG. The merger of the companies and the three brands arko, Eilles and Hussel formed Europe's largest confectionery specialist retailer with a total of around 2,000 employees and 450 locations in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Portugal, where Hussel GmbH is involved in a joint venture with a local entrepreneurial family.
