We recognise opportunities and seek challenges.

At the core of our strategy is an equity investment in well-positioned companies with further growth potential. As a partner of the management team, we help to drive forward the corporate development and increase competitiveness over the long term. As a rule, we acquire a significant equity investment in a company and invite the management to participate.

Our investment criteria:

  • Enterprise value of between EUR 30 and 250 million
  • Exclusively majority participations
  • Companies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, or which have substantial business with these countries
  • Leading market position in attractive (niche) markets
  • Strong management teams with the desire to grow
  • Healthy balance sheets and solid performance in all business fields

We by no means shy away from operational problems in individual business fields or regions. With our experience, we are able to find innovative and sustainable solutions for specific situations, even when faced with complex transactions.

Real added-value based on the combination of industry expertise and operational know-how.

It is our firm belief that we can add more value and be a better partner for management in the sectors we already have significant experience in. We therefore focus our investments around the following five industry sectors:

  • Consumer goods
  • Retail including direct sales and e-commerce
  • Industrial goods
  • Services
  • Healthcare

With reasons for equity investments, we are as flexible as the situation requires.

We have collectively acquired a breadth and depth of experience in supporting management and investing in companies in a variety of situations, as we appreciate that businesses can be sold – in full or partially – for many reasons and to serve a wide range of objectives, achieving an attractive price being only one of them. The EMERAM Team has successfully structured several transactions in each of the scenarios outlined below. However, every situation is unique and often involves a combination of scenarios.

Scenarios that have already been realised

Naturally, the respective individual cases differ and result in a combination of the scenarios described. We would be pleased to provide you with relevant references in order for you to find out directly from business owners and management teams what their experience has been partnering with EMERAM Team members, both during a sales process and thereafter.

Succession policy

Succession policy

Many successful entrepreneurs do not have the option to hand over their business to the next generation. For many years they may have invested all their energy into building up their company, and find themselves approaching retirement and/or have some other passion that they want to follow. Having put their heart and soul in the business, economical divestiture is often a prerequisite to “let go.” Second-level management may or may not be in place to successfully take over the business. The EMERAM Team members have experience with both types of situations and can help business owners find the right solution.

Asset diversification

Asset diversification

The founder or owner has concentrated all his wealth in his company and wants to "take some money off the table" to diversify his/her wealth or provide some cushion for his/her family. He/she wants to continue to run the business but at the same time is looking for a strong and complementary partner who can help to further develop the company.

Growth financing and support

Growth financing and support

Taking the company to the next level might require steps that are beyond the scope of what the current owners are in a position to achieve. This could involve add-on acquisitions, the build-up of additional production capacity or an additional sales force in a foreign market, to name just a few. We provide not only the necessary financial means but also the experience, industry expertise and network of relationships, which can support your business in taking this critical next step.

Management buy-out

Management buy-out

The existing management wants to take over the business and is looking for a strong partner to provide the necessary support and expertise to take the business forward. This can be initiated by current owners who want to give management the opportunity to become shareholders in the business they have helped to build or by management itself.

Management buy-in

Management buy-in

A buy-in manager or a management team has identified a business that they want to take over. They are experienced in the industry and believe that they can successfully take the company to the next level. We can support the team and design a structure to facilitate this development.

Corporate carve out

Corporate carve out

A division or entity of a larger organization no longer fits the strategy and is planned to be divested. Whether it already operates independently or significant efforts are required to establish it on a standalone basis, EMERAM Team members have successfully led several such carve-outs.

With our experience, we structure transactions quickly and smoothly.

The EMERAM Team has experience in a broad spectrum of industries and has structured transactions in a variety of situations. Our approach is not only to acquire businesses, but to significantly support them in their development. While we do not interfere with day to day management and operations, we do provide advice and experience and utilize our network to support the growth of our portfolio companies. We typically take two seats on the advisory board, but seek to add external industry experts.
